The Ratification Process

The Kyoto Protocol came into force on 16 February, 2005 once Russia had ratified the protocol in November 2004.

To enter into force the Kyoto Protocol required a mimumin of 55 parties to the convention to have ratified with aggregate greenhouse emissions exceeding 55% of total 1990 emissions.
